      Location - Williams Township. On the south sideof SR 1721, Lystra Road, 0.8 mile east of US 15-501. Address is 686 Lystra Road.

      In December 1999, Audrey O. Heiser recorded 553 legible grave markers and noted 133 illegible markers or unmarked graves. Between October 2011 and March 2012, Doris Houston photographed all of the markers in the cemetery that she could locate. A number of additions and corrections have been made based on these photos. If no photo is provided, the marker was not located in 2012.

      First Meeting in 1848 or 1849 at Dodd House and at Cole House for protracted services, both about six miles south of Chapel Hill. Lystra, an arm of Mt. Carmel was constituted in November 1852 by Elders James S. Purefoy, Aaron Jones, and George W. Purefoy. Reference: Wade H. Hadley, Jr., et al., Chatham County 1771-1971.
