      The church building is located at 723 East St, Pittsboro. This is about 4 blocks west of the cemetery and between Hwy 64 and Thompson St. The cemetery is north of Thompson St.

      This was the original location of the African-American Hanks Chapel church. In 2004 Elizabeth Hains and Jane Pyle recorded 77 readable gravestones and noted numerous fieldstone markers and unmarked sites. Glenn Lazarus and Paul Mitchell surveyed and photographed the site in Dec 2019 and Glenn Lazarus finished the survey in Feb 2020.
