      Directions: From Exit 192 on Interstate 40 go south on Peters Creek Parkway 3.2 miles and turn east onto Bridgton Road, turn south onto Follansbee Road. Church and adjacent cemetery are 0.5 miles south on west side of road at Hopewell Church Rd. intersection.

      "Hopewell was founded about 1807 as a Lutheran church by Henry Rippel, a former Hessian soldier. One of the first Sunday Schools in North Carolina was begun at Hopewell about 1816. Later Hopewell became a difficult charge for the Lutherans to maintain so that the church building and 2 acres of land were sold to the Moravians for 50 dollars. The congregation was reorganized as a branch of Trinity Moravian (Winston-Salem) and later became an independent congregation." (From Stanley, Donald W. (ed.), Ann E. Sheek, Hazel R. Hartman. 1976.
