David Brown McGhee bought his first farm in 1885 in another part of Granville County (deed book #38, pp. 82-84) but apparently he had lost control of it sometime before 1900. This former slave bought the land upon which the cemetery is located in the early 1900s and when he died in 1914, he willed this farm to his widow Rose Norman McGhee for her lifetime. When she died in 1943, their son Benjamin (one of 14 children) bought the farm from the other heirs and continued to farm there. All of the heirs agreed to survey and exempt from the sale of the farm proper, and any future sale, the land (approximately one acre) for the graveyard and the right of way to its entry. Their signed and legal agreement (Trust Deed) is to make available for any and all descendants of David Brown McGhee access, without charge, to a final resting place if they so desired. This agreement continues to this day, with the descendants of all who are buried there contributing to the upkeep of the graveyard. There are several unmarked graves with the known occupants of some being the unmarked graves of Rose Norman McGhee's brother Charles and a nephew, Lurie Norman, son of her brother, Sandy.

This information was provided in September 2012 by Dr. Barnetta McGhee White, granddaughter of David Brown McGhee. More in depth information about this family can be found in the book, In Search of Kith and Kin: The History of a Southern Black Family, written by Dr. White.
