Location - on the south side of the Tar River, 200 yards east of Grimesland Bridge Road (SR 1565).

Dr. Nenno bought this property from the Grimes family, and he received permission to bury his wife in the cemetery. Supposedly, a slave cemetery is located nearby. It has been reported that the Susanna White buried here is Blackbeard's sister and that someone dug into the grave looking for treasure. However, because Blackbeard died about 1722 and Susanna was born about 1755, I don't feel she is his sister, but she might be a niece. His sister, Susie White, supposedly lived in this area. In memory of Mrs. SUSANNA WHITE, Departed this life Jany 18, 1803 Aged 48 My flesh shall slumber in the ground.Til the last trumpet joyful sound.The burst the bounds with sweet surprise.And in my saviours image rise SALLY, the wife of Dr. TENNENT BOWEN, who departed this life Dec the 21, 1800 In whom were concentered all the excellences which constitute the affectionate wife, fond mother and indulgent mistress.
