317    STANLEY, WILLIAM FAMILY CEMETERY

Location - 842 Stony Knoll Road, Dobson, Surry Co., NC.

Directions: From the intersection of US Hwy 601 and NC Hwy 268 at Fairview Crossing go east on Hwy NC 268 for 4 miles to intersection of Copeland School Rd (SR 2209) and turn right onto Copeland School Rd and go south for 1.1 mile to a fork in the road just before reaching Copeland Baptist Church. Take the right fork onto Stony Knoll Rd (SR 2234) and go southwest for about .2 mile to a grey house at 383 Stony Knoll Rd on the left. Must obtain directions and permission from the land owner. It is a long walk of at least a mile into the woods across cow pastures and rough terrain south of the home where you stopped.

Very remote cemetery. There are 3 unmarked field stone markers. Also there is one each rectangular foot stone type stones with initials for each of the family members. There is a large central stone that has all four sides etched, 1st side has parents names, in clockwise rotation the 2nd side has children's names, 3rd side has information of when the stone was erected by Nancy Stanley the 9th child in 1914 as well as her birth and death dates. (b. 7-7-1847, d. 1-10-1918), and the 4th side are names of the rest of children. Additional information supplied by Judy Stanley Cardwell on this family.

Daughter of William Stanley and Nancy Kyle Stanley - was 3rd Wife of Hasten (Hastin) Coe, m. 11 Dec 1907 in Surry (Surry County, NC - Marriage Records, Book 58, page 166, a marriage abstract dated June 1, 1996 which is a replacement of a marriage license that was lost or destroyed. Shows Hastin age 57 and Emelia age 58 married in Rockford township and witnessed by E. C. Coe, A. T. Coe, and V. R. Doss and performed by J. T. Poindexter, JP in Rockford township.
