Miscellaneous information: Isham Sims Upchurch is buried here along with his wife Delia Beavers Upchurch and several children. I.S. Upchurch (1824-1916) served in Company G of the 16th NC Infantry CSA during the Civil War and was a well-known farmer in the east Chatham/Green Level area. Records show that he owned approximately 450 acres that straddled the Chatham/Wake county line. In the 1850 census, Isham is listed as a mechanic in the Marmaduke Williams household in Lower Regiment Chatham. He married Delia Beavers in December 1851. Isham and his wife Delia are listed in Chatham censuses from 1860 to 1880. Isham is in Chatham as a widower in 1900 and remarried in 1910. Eleven of Isham and Delia's thirteen children lived to adulthood and married into other east Chatham families. The two children who died early are buried in this cemetery, which is on the Upchurch homeplace and located just 200 feet over the Chatham County line into Wake County. Isham's death certificate lists his father as Murray Upchurch and mother as Nancy Scott.
